Dog treats are a great incentive to help with training commands. But before you go out and purchase the cheapest treat on the shelf, remember a few things.

Select a treat that is easy to eat and small in size or that you can break into smaller pieces. During training your dog will receive a lot of treats so you want something that will not distract them very long and will not make them full or overweight. If the dog treats you purchase are larger, we recommend cutting them to an appropriate size. The idea is to give them a taste, not a meal. (more…)

It can be difficult to select the right food and dog treats for your dog. Many leading brands of dog food and dog treats claim to be “healthy” or “natural”. Corporations market the idea that your dog will live longer and will love the “wholesome” flavors of their treats and food. The truth is that most leading brands contain refined meat products, preservatives and low quality ingredients. The fact is that some large multinational companies even utilize the pet food market for food waste products including slaughterhouse offal and grains “unfit for human consumption.” (more…)
